Pre-operative information for hallux valgus surgery

Undergoing surgery always requires adequate preparation. In the case of hallux valgus correction using the PBS (Percutaneous Bianchi System) technique, the pre-operative path is designed to ensure safety, clarity, and proper organization of the procedure.

Dr. Andrea Bianchi and the PBS team accompany the patient through all preparatory phases, providing useful instructions to arrive at the surgery in the best possible condition.

The specialist consultation

The first step is the orthopedic foot examination, during which the specialist evaluates:

  • the deformity of the big toe
  • the overall structure of the foot
  • any associated pathologies of the forefoot
  • the level of pain and functional limitations.

For a complete evaluation, an X-ray of both feet under weight-bearing conditions—meaning performed in a standing position—is generally required. This examination allows for a precise analysis of bone alignment and the extent of the deformity.

Based on the examination and diagnostic tests, the surgeon will be able to determine if surgery is the most appropriate solution.

Pre-operative tests

Before surgery, it is necessary to perform some routine pre-operative tests to check the patient’s general state of health. These may include:

  • blood tests
  • electrocardiogram
  • any further investigations indicated by the physician.

These checks ensure that the surgery is approached under conditions of maximum safety.

Preparation for surgery

Hallux valgus correction surgery using the PBS technique is generally performed under local anesthesia and with a minimally invasive approach. However, it is important to follow certain instructions before the operation:

  • arrive with all the required medical documentation
  • follow the instructions received regarding your usual medications
  • arrange for your return home after the surgery.

The medical staff will provide all the necessary information to properly prepare for the procedure.

The day of the surgery

The surgery is performed through small skin incisions, according to the principles of percutaneous foot surgery. The procedure is relatively short and, in most cases, the patient can walk immediately after the operation using a dedicated post-operative shoe.

At the end of the surgery, precise instructions are provided on foot management in the following weeks and on post-operative check-ups.

A guided and personalized path

Preparation for surgery represents a fundamental phase of the treatment process. Thanks to the PBS technique and the experience of the team coordinated by Dr. Andrea Bianchi, the patient is followed step by step, from the first consultation to functional recovery.

Proper information and adequate preparation allow the patient to face the surgery with greater peace of mind and to achieve the best possible results.
