Patient Information

Dealing with a foot problem, such as hallux valgus or other forefoot conditions, can raise many questions and concerns. For this reason, it is important that patients receive clear and comprehensive information about the diagnostic and therapeutic process.

Dr. Andrea Bianchi, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot surgery and creator of the PBS (Percutaneous Bianchi System) technique, together with his team, guides each patient through all stages of treatment: from the initial specialist consultation to post-operative recovery.

The Initial Consultation

The first step is the specialist foot examination, during which the physician carefully evaluates the patient’s clinical condition.

During the consultation, several aspects are analyzed:

  • the presence of forefoot deformities
  • the level of pain or discomfort during walking
  • any difficulties with footwear
  • the patient’s medical history and symptom progression.

For a complete evaluation, it is generally necessary to bring weight-bearing X-rays of both feet, performed in a standing position. This examination allows for the study of the bone structure of the foot and the extent of the deformity.

When Intervention Is Necessary

Not all foot conditions necessarily require surgical intervention. In many cases, it is possible to begin with conservative treatments, such as the use of orthotics or other targeted therapies.

However, when pain persists, the deformity progresses, or daily activities become limited, it may be appropriate to consider surgical correction.

The PBS Technique

The PBS (Percutaneous Bianchi System) technique is a minimally invasive surgical method developed by Dr. Andrea Bianchi for the treatment of hallux valgus and other forefoot conditions.

The procedure is performed through small skin incisions, with the goal of reducing surgical trauma and respecting the foot’s natural physiology.

Among the main features of the PBS technique:

  • minimally invasive procedure
  • local anesthesia
  • no screws or permanent fixation devices
  • ability to walk immediately after surgery with a dedicated post-operative shoe.

A Personalized Treatment Journey

Every foot is different and every patient has specific needs. For this reason, the treatment journey is always personalized, carefully evaluating the clinical situation, patient expectations, and possible therapeutic options. The goal of the PBS team is to provide effective treatment while respecting the natural balance of the foot, allowing patients to return to movement with greater comfort and confidence.
